Ecological Study Documentation

SCP Environnement conducts comprehensive environmental studies based on the legislative frameworks in force in Quebec.

Depending on the project requirements, ecological characterization may include one or more of the following interventions:

  • Ecological study & characterization of terrestrial and wetland environments;
  • Determination of the shoreline boundary of aquatic environments (formerly high-water line);
  • Delimitation of wetlands and aquatic environments (MHH);
  • Ecological profile of sites based on existing data and field surveys.

Know how to evaluate composition, ecological value, and regulatory constraints.

Ecological study & characterization aims to rigorously document the natural environments present on a site in order to assess their composition, ecological value, and associated regulatory constraints. The SCP Environment Group can conduct a comprehensive ecological study tailored to development, land use planning, conservation, or regulatory compliance projects, based on the legislative frameworks in force in Quebec.

Our interventions make it possible to identify sensitive environments, anticipate environmental issues, and guide decision-making from the earliest stages of a project, whether in an urban, peri-urban, or natural context.

The SCP Group also offers ecological inventory and monitoring services. These inventories aim to document the presence of flora and fauna species as well as the ecological issues associated with the site:

  • Flora inventories;
  • Inventories of invasive alien species (IAS);
  • Inventories and monitoring of endangered flora and fauna species;
  • Fauna inventories:
    Birds;
    Amphibians and reptiles;
    Mammals, including bats.

A rigorous and tailored approach

Each ecological characterization mandate is carried out using a scientific, objective approach tailored to the client’s needs and the project context. Our teams rely on recognized methods, in-depth knowledge of Quebec’s regulatory framework, and proven field expertise to deliver reliable and directly applicable analyses.

Regulatory framework and authorizations

The SCP Environment Group offers technical support in relation to applicable environmental requirements, particularly in the context of development, infrastructure, or land use planning projects. This support may include:

  • Applications for ministerial authorization under the Environment Quality Act (EQA);
  • Application of the Regulation respecting the regulation of activities based on their impact on the environment (REAFIE) and the Regulation respecting activities in wetlands, water bodies, and sensitive areas (RAMHHS);
  • Analysis of environmental and regulatory constraints;
  • Production of reports that comply with the requirements of ministries and municipalities.

Geomatics and cartography

Our services incorporate geomatics tools to support ecological analysis and decision-making:

  • Mapping of natural environments and wetlands and water environments;
  • Photo interpretation based on available geomatics data;
  • Production of thematic maps for technical reports and planning tools.

Support, conservation, and restoration

Beyond ecological assessment, SCP Environnement supports its clients in the enhancement and sustainable management of natural environments:

  • Support for the restoration of disturbed or degraded environments;
  • Development of conservation and management plans for natural environments;
  • Support for consultation between the various stakeholders (municipalities, ministries, citizens, groups, and developers).

Outreach, training, and consultation

To promote social acceptance and understanding of environmental issues, we also offer the following services:

  • Preparation of educational and awareness-raising tools (interpretive panels, brochures, summary documents);
  • Customized training and conferences;
  • Facilitation and support for consultation processes.
